We believe firmly that everyone has the responsibility to know exactly where the food they are eating, and feeding their family, comes from. We believe that preserving our native breeds will ensure the best quality of british food and agriculture.
Our cows are slow reared, grass fed, free range cows raised by a family who care and will not cave to faster crueller methods of production. We never use hormones or unnecessary antibiotics to treat our cows, in fact, we like to keep such a close eye on their welfare that we can see them from our bedroom window!
The Beef breeds
Aberdeen Angus – The famous Scottish breed dates back to the early part of the 19th century from the predominantly black cattle of North east. The modern Aberdeen Angus is one of the most successul beef breeds in the world because of the high quality beef it produces. It is important to us to see one of this countries finest native breeds flourishing and thriving on our open pastures.
Highland - One of Britain's oldest, most distinctive, and best known breeds, with a long, thick, flowing coat of rich hair and majestic sweeping horns, the Highlander has remained largely unchanged over the centuries.
Hereford - Herefords are renowned for their excellent 'marbled' beef that is in great demand both within the UK and for export due to its distinctive flavour and renowned eating quality.
Longhorn - A very rare and delicious beef, large curved horns and a irregular spotted coat of cream and brown. A real beefy treat.
To try to minimise stress for the cows we use a local abattoir that is only 25 miles away. They share our philosophy that to produce high quality meat, there are several keys steps; reducing animal stress to the absolute minimum in the lairage, cooling the carcass slowly over a 24 hour period and have large dry maturation rooms that hang the beef for up to 41 days. This allows time for the rich flavours to develop and for the meat to become incredibly tender. They are expertly butchered to give you the best cuts.
This is why our beef tastes wonderful. Once you have tried the traditional beef method you will never go back to the bland supermarket meat currently on offer.
